New Zealand horse racing tips

Race 1. (11:10) Neteffext Payroll 2YO (1200m)

#9 – Glitzy Glory @ $3.70

Glitzy Glory is on debut for Te Akau after showing good speed at the trials.

The two-year-old daughter of Embellish won at Avondale over 800m last month, and age-group runners from this stable are always ready to go.

We’re happy with the odds available to kick off the Group 1 card.

Race 3. (12:18) Bramco Granite and Marble BM75 (1600m)

#9 – Islington Lass @ $2.80

Looking to score three wins from her first four starts is Islington Lass, who won at Otaki last time out.

The four-year-old daughter of Proisir won by 2.3 lengths in a classy display, so she’s the worthy favourite on Saturday.

Carrying 54.5kg is ideal and one of the best jockeys rides.

Race 5. (13.33) Wentwood Cuddle Stakes (1600m)

#8 – Pearl of Alsace @ $4.80

Pearl of Alsace is unbeaten after four starts and we fancy her chances of remaining unbeaten.

The impressive daughter of Tavistock won her most recent race at Hastings in a driving display, suggesting the rise to the mile isn’t a worry.

Take the each-way odds before they firm.

Race 7. (14:48) Jennian Homes Lightning Handicap (1200m)

#1 – Shamus @ $2.45

Shamus is a six-time winner from eight starts, so there’s no reason to jump off his back on Saturday.

The four-year-old scored by a length last time out, and although carrying 60kg isn’t easy, he shouldn’t mind over this distance.

Punters should expect another top effort from the favourite.

Race 1. (10:45) Matamata Vet Services (1200m)

#1 – The Racketeer @ $2.80

The Racketeer is already a two-time winner this preparation, and he went close in a tough race at Trentham last start.

He scored a win at Te Rapa prior to that, and both of his career wins have come over this distance, so the stats read well.

2kg comes off his back and his odds could firm on race day.

Race 3. (11:59) Frocked Up Girls Handicap (1200m)

#3 – Aotea Lad @ $6

Aotea Lad has solid fresh up form and he usually finds his best racing early on.

The Te Akau-trained runner comes off a fifth at Taupo behind Perfect Scenario, which is a tidy form guide.

This race is up for grabs and dropping to 54kg should make him tough to beat.

Race 4. (12:33) Happy Retirement B McKeagg BM75 (1400m)

#10 – Ask Mum @ $4

Ask Mum comes from the hot O’Sullivan/Scott stable, and she has looked better than average with consecutive wins.

The four-year-old mare won both starts at her home track of Matamata, but the latest came by 2.3 lengths against a good field.

Dropping to 52.5kg is a steal and the odds are too good to pass up.

Race 6. (13:47) Worlds End Bar & Rest BM65 (2100m)

#1 – High Choice @ $3.50

High Choice is getting close to a win after three consecutive placings, so he’s worth sticking with.

The four-year-old son of Extreme Choice owns two wins and seven placings overall, so there’s nothing wrong with his record.

4kg comes off his back to help with the weight.
